The sinking feeling I just got, remembering the ending.

Goodreads has been throwing out error messages constantly lately, and apparently they're doing away with private messages, so who knows what feature will be next. Despite being owned by Amazon, it's been a favourite website of mine for a dozen years and I still come here for reviews and bookish connection first, even though I keep track of my reading elsewhere too. It's a little bit heartbreaking to see it crumble.

Liking this more now though all my criticisms stand; so, perhaps it'd be more accurate to say I'm disliking it less.

She's genuinely nice to him at every opportunity and he's been nothing but a judgmental dick the entire book.

I'm more active elsewhere nowdays, but I miss Goodreads. I have still been passively producing "content" for them without sending it to my feed - which admittedly nullifies any principled stand behind the inactivity - but I miss the social aspect of book social media. It's been 7 years since I interacted much with people here, and a lot of them have since moved or passed on. Is there still community here?

Not gelling with this series and I can't even properly explain why.

On the Appenzell: If you look at the small white-framed windows and the busy, fiery flowers on the sills, you get this sense of tropical stagnation, a thwarted luxuriance, you have the feeling that inside something serenely gloomy and a little sick is going on. So far, pretty incredible

I must say audiobook may not be the ideal format for this one.

I last read this in January and had already forgotten how unsettling it is. I'm feeling tense on a re-read.
