There really is no “easy” choice, no life path that protects you from discomfort entirely.
For every person lying in a van somewhere wondering what they’re doing, there’s a person lying in a three bedroom, two bathroom house wondering the same.

The water heater goes out, a windstorm drops a tree branch onto the garage, the basement floods, the utility bills go up. You name it. There’s always going to be something to figure out, whether your house is on wheels or not.

…Because changing your perspective is tedious and exhausting, but not nearly as exhausting as anger.

…where you are doesn’t matter as much once you know who you are.

Change is one of the few and most formidable constants in this life. That’s why ease can come at a cost. When things become mindless, you stop paying attention. Your willingness to change course or shift perspective dwindles. You grow so accustomed to comforts that you mistake them for necessities. You forget what you’re capable of.

The postcard-worthy views weren’t worth the cost of my dogs’ freedom, because their freedom had become my purpose.

People live their lives with such astounding, unfounded certainty. They assume their own tomorrows. They assume they’re guaranteed to come.

I have always believed the best way to get what you want in this life is to start with what you don’t. It’s a shorter list, and a much more honest one.
