So far I’m finding this to be a well-presented analysis of the challenges with which knowledge workers are faced in a modern workplace, where the absence of a clear articulation of “productivity” means that the meagre proxy of visible busyness for tangible business is used to measure success. It’ll be interesting to see what lessons can be derived from the success of past knowledge workers!

Excellent analogies help to solidify the methods of counting. I really appreciate how the author gives sketches to relate these different problems (e.g. how one can find the ways to choose n of N elements (i.e. without replacement, order doesn’t matter) by determining how to pick n of N elements (i.e. without replacement, order matters) by dividing the latter by the number of ways one can permute n elements)

I picked this book up off my shelf on a whim, having thoroughly enjoyed Dan Brown’s other books, only to find this riveting romp to be far more topical than expected in these quaran-times! D:

Absolutely grim and gratuitous scenes of genocide. This is a pretty difficult read.

Although I was initially irked by the author’s somewhat pompous and superior tone, I have decided to tune that out in favour of her research and her motivational message.

This book is RIFE with typos, the examples are poorly motivated, and the solutions jump around referring to numbers which are not part of the original problem statement. I am going to power through this and write to Packt because this is pretty darned bad :(

Just digging into implementations of basic network tools... pretty compelling arguments for needing to know how to do this (I.e. no ability to install wireshark or other netsec tools) but I need to figure out how you would deploy a forward proxy for nefarious purposes (they have only mentioned superficially why you would want to use one, such as for packet sniffing and intercepting unencrypted data)

Bill’s style is so conversational and kitschy, but I really love how evenly he’s presented the glory of the principles of evolution and natural selection, especially underlining how those principles evince the core of scientific inquiry.
