I will say that at times this nonfiction story can get a bit laden down with names and facts. It doesn't help that all the players in this English/ French Resistance have real names, code names and even third names to keep track of.
However, the book goes to pains to link each identity to its real human counterpart in the indices of this story. The greater story of sacrifice in the face of torture is Noor's legacy.

A fascinating fictional accounting of a young girl trying to survive the Khmer rouge atrocities. The writing is lyrical and poetic and despite daily reminders of cruelty, starvation and death, there is a thread of hope that entwines it all.

A very cool coming-of-age story nestled in a mystery set against the backdrop of the 60s psychedelic era.

I absolutely loved this book from start to finish. Whether you are a fan of Japanese culture or travel, there's something in this for everyone. And aside from being just another story about a Canadian abroad, the author is absolutely hilarious in his descriptions other events as he hitchhikes his way through the country. He also brings a gravitus to the people he meets along the way when needed and never disrespects

This is a wonderful trip down Memory Lane if you grew up in the 70s. The author takes to the open road to travel around the United States for a few months, meeting normal everyday Americans and finding out what makes them tick. It has wonderful insight into the politics of the time as well as all the different cultures the United States encompasses.
