It is slow reading, especially if one is looking up source documents, like old system manuals, running emulators, reading Peoples Computing Company newsletters on archive.org, etc.

But it is a much richer experience if one takes the time to google the names and read wikipedia articles and even do some hacking in emulators for the PDP-11 or an Apple II.

A good read that places the discovery of various mathematical objects in their historical context.

In addition to major mathematicians like Gauss, Leibnitz, Newton or Hilbert, other relatively unknown mathematicians are brought forth.

There is much to contemplate in this book, and it merits several readings.

I would like to think I would eventually read the whole book, but I know I probably won’t.

However, I have covered about as much as a one semester course and feel better about working with similar microprocessors.
