For anyone else who didn’t get the very contrived joke, “sen sen” was a brand of mints back in the day. Like…way back. And there was a movie called “the Cincinnati Kid,” that was probably about gambling. And “Little Miss Marker” was apparently a Shirley Temple movie.

Okay why is it such a big deal for an adult human male to go play a game of cards by himself?

This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s so fascinating. I only put it down to skim the books it references.

It’s sooo obvious on this re-read that this is complete bs. The narrator sounds EXACTLY like “Alice;” 15 year old boys don’t talk this way; the intro is utterly self serving. I can’t believe we fell for this shit
