Based on my own experience with Reactive Attachment Disorder, the author is very clearly glossing over the down and dirty details. I get the slow build that she’s going for though. It’s like she’s hitting the highlights of key behavioral moments that lead up to the realization that RAD is making the kid batshit crazy but no one else will believe it.

The back-tracking of character development is what bothers me most about this book. The author wants to undo some of his plot resolutions so he has to change the characters to suit this. Michael seemed like a decent guy in the first book and now he’s suddenly locking kids in closets for four hours and Astrid’s response is essentially tsk tsk. Give me a break.
