The more I read this book, the more I love it. Admittedly took a few pages to get into it, but glad I stuck with it.

This is the second time I've picked up this book. I'm drawn back to it, because of the very good writing style, although the plot (if it has one) is not very clear to me yet. I'll finish it, but it will take me a while. I'm always picking up another book that sets this one back on the shelf for a while.

Charles Nelson is starting Dubliners
OK, I'm reading this because I have to read something by James Joyce due solely to his reputation as the greatest English language writer. I slogged through about a 1/3 of "Ulysses", and just couldn't finish it without an encyclopedia in hand. Too much hard work. Giving this a go to see if he can write as well as he's acknowledged, AND be a bit more accessible. We'll see.

Charles Nelson is on page 81 of 422 of Selected Stories
I read the first 4 stories in this collection and liked them all, but then it set aside to read A Gentleman in Moscow (which I'm really glad I did.) However, I did like the first four stories in this collection, and in tribute to a very good friend, who is as Canadian as I know, although he lives here in the US, I'm picking this up again.

Charles Nelson is finished with Andersonville
Dated prose, and tedious at times, but horrifying in its description of live in Andersonville Prison. Not sorry I read it, but it was a slog at times.

The language, thus far, is a bit stilted, but the character presentations are very well done. I visited Andersonville this past summer, so this was a must on my list. So far, no regrets.
