This book is hype. Just finished the chapters on the epistles and OT narrative. It’s so good to help think outside of American individualism, cherry-picking verses, and how to balance cultural context with eternal and moral principles.

Really challenging me on how I used to, and still do read the bible. Makes me want to go back and re-write all my old notes in my first journaling bible!

Last section is better now that it’s getting into practicalities. Still is very rudimentary. They really love to rehash how we need to model and not just communicate.

Still not having an “ah-ha” moment and extremely bored

So much padding. This would be a great book for someone who has no clue how to talk to young people. But goodness gracious it feels elementary

Super good so far. The way he treated the OT was a good balance of descriptive and pre-fall focus. Although I know his conclusion already, I appreciate his charity

Decided to go with this instead of NT wright. His book was less biblical theology and more essays on modern issues that scripture is silent on

So far it’s pretty good. A bit on atonement theory and how Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection stakes His claim over heaven and earth. But also how the early Christian’s, prior to Constantine, saw themselves as rebels to the powers that be. Not being in bed with the powers

Many parakeets so far. The section on scripture as story was pretty great. Not seeing the gospel as a benefit program solely but as Jesus being king

So good so far. A temptation for me would to use these principles in an ingenious way. Gotta remember to be genuinely interested in others in a way that points people to Christ and not myself

Flip this book is amazing. All the different aspects of habits, how the work theologically, and the practical aspect of them is such a great read. Might be my book of the year if it keeps up

Breath prayers are wild. But really great! Also love the idea that, as we move further from Gnosticism, we move toward our whole selves being the soul, and we need to cultivate it

Great so far. Pretty introductory so I’d recommend anyone new to the faith to read it. Especially for the first century history

Great so far. Sort of feels like a Christian atomic habits. I would suggest reading the first few chapters of atomic habits first, specifically on how our identity shapes our habits and vice versa, and then read this.
