We've made it to Maysville (Limestone). Huzzah.

I don't like this. And I like it less because it's real. I'm on the Shawnee's side at this point.

You are gonna need a healthy background in Kentucky geography and history to understand the first quarter of this. At minimum I would suggest reviewing the major rivers of eastern and northern Kentucky especially any tributaries of the Ohio. Otherwise you're going to be lost. Literally.

She never misses

Lisa See never misses and I can already tell less than 10% in that this one will be no exception. I'm just going to go out there and say it: Lisa See is my favorite modern author.

I've survived chapter 11 which apparently is so famously dense that there are stickers for your water bottle about it.

Of COURSE Tasha Tudor who illustrated the 90s editions of my favorite Edwardian children's books has terraced gardens. Of course she does. If you want to know who I want to be at 85 years old...it's the Appalachian version of Tash Tudor.

I just really want this book to be finished.

I do not like this and I can't even tell you why.

We've got like 60 pages left and I really don't know how we're going to end this tidily Ms. Kuang.

Well that escalated quickly

Finally this book is picking up speed. Finally.

Y'all this is just crazy town. Because what do you mean Florida Man is just down there with dinosaur bones and chainsaws and wire from Home Depot in the year of our lord 2012 acting like an Indiana Jones villain?

Well this is a refreshing delight. Ironically it is about a child that lives in a funeral home and whose boyfriend has died tragically. FAR better written than the other YA drivel I've read lately. Reese, why isn't THIS in your book club?
