Oh, but this is good fun!

What the actual fuck. Initially, I thought “ok, this is a but cute”, but with each passing moment this book became more and more inane and ridiculously contrived. Why would you be annoyed bf listened to your podcast? Like… earth to massively unrealistic idiot weird protagonist: YOU PUT IT ON THE FUCKING INTERNET. 🙄🙄😲

So much waffle. I can’t tell if I’m meant to take any of this seriously or not. If the latter, why on earth is it so dry and florid?

For fuck’s sake, but I am starting to be so fed up with pastors and christianity and just backwards religions where humans should atone and prostrate themselves at the feet of some imaginary, narcissistic god. Poor girl. Absolutely fuming.

Meh. It’s okay, but I keep thinking: “the Witch’s Heart was a much better retelling”. And once again, I am reminded of how little I like the Norse gods. I love Gaiman’s take on them (American Gods), but the source inspiration grates me.

Honestly. If I weren’t already invested in the story/ certain characters, I would have given up. Also, it’s good— bar the unforgivable general stupidity of the main characters, not to mention the ever present morality that protagonists must engage with in inner monologues in order to appear conflicted and complex. How is Hetta this useless as a Lord?! How???? And Wynn, grow a fucking pair already.

I am so tired of people criticising Harry Potter because it’s cool to shit on JKR or if something is wildly successful and popular, than it must be problematic. I was vibing with this book until it decided that Harry Potter was upholding patriarchal values and glorifying violence. Excuse you?! Harry famously uses a disarming spell even when his ass is about to be killed, not to mention he beats V with love.

It is a criminal offence that this book has the cover that it has. Criminal. Also, I need this to have a happy ending because if I am forced to go through all this trauma for a sad ending, I will throw hands.

I am intrigued! Dare I say.. this seems promising.

The plot is obvious already and can we please stop writing violence porn directed at women?! Why do women writers do this in YA/NA fantasy?! Can a heroine not suffer in more subtle ways than being beaten by slavers?! So tropey. Shame about the decent concept.

20 hours of my life wasted on this. I am filled with hate.
