This book has holes. There are whole parts that read as if the author had made a Note of what Was supposed to happen in that scene with the Intention of revisiting it and properly writing it down - and then just never got around to it.

Vaguely bored. I like the world this is set in, but the story slugs along. And are you seriously telling me nobody ever asked the sole survivor of a mass drowning why they went where they went in the first place? Especially if they all suddenly had matching, quite o vinous tattoos?

I am so very much not okay with convincing a seven year old that she would deserve a spanking for misbehaving (and her baby brother for coming near a hot stove) that I am seriously reconsidering my attachment to this series. I can deal with the whole obsession with weapons and the idolization of physical fitness, but this made me cringe so hard (and was absolutely unnecessary).

Reading the self-congratulatory author's note and wondering if it makes sense to carry on...

17 chapters in and I have issues.
- why would you put a bounty on someone you have seen flying into a black hole?
- a high white blood cell count would make me worry about leukemia rather than enthuse about superimmunity
- and my pet trope: miscommunication to keep the action going. WHY for heaven's sake does he not warn her?

16 chapters in I have issues with this book.
- why would anybody put a bounty an someone who has flown into a black hole right under his nose?
- an extremely high white blood cell cause would make me worried about leukemia rather than excited about superimmunity.
- I can appreciate a moral dilemma without having it repeated to me in every single chapter, thanks.

Ich stecke fest. Im ersten Band war alles noch neu, und das Worlbuilding und die Figuren hielten mich einigermaßen bei der Stange. Der zweite Band hatte Piraten und einen magischen Wettbewerb, was will man mehr. Aber dieser hier zieht sich ewig, mein Interesse für magische Bedrohungen schwindet rapide, und von den Figuren erhoffe ich mir keine Entwicklung mehr...
