I knew that this was going to be great when the author included an in-universe explanation for why he chose to use the "Before/After Battle of Yavin" dating system rather than (my preferred) "After Endor" system. This is both a brilliant deep cut for long-time SW fans and precisely the type of thing that historians talk about when justifying why they do or don't use the "Common Era" system.

I saw a review that said this is just Colleen Hoover for grad students and I can't stop thinking about that.

If Rebecca Yarros doesn't get a pass for self-inserting herself and her husband as her main characters, then Rebecca Kuang doesn't get a pass for doing it, either.

I am 78 pages into the new RF Kuang book and I am horrified that I don't hate it so far.

After the first 25 pages, my review is thus: Katabasis reads like The Hyperion Cantos if Dan Simmons hated poor people.
