Every time I read this, I forget how often Dracula has a problem and decides to solve it with wolves.

Why not. Why shouldn't I chronologically read Dracula for the second year in a row.

Reading this for the second time. The first time was for my gothic lit class in college and I remember my professor describing it as "funny" but not fully appreciating it at the time. And belated apologies to the prof, because this book is actually hilarious. It's got romantic tension between Jack Seward and a cowboy, it's got Dracula fully tossing wolves through windows, it's got it all.

What fresh hell am I reading?

I’m very slowly reading this out loud while caring for my 2-month-old daughter. Baby’s first Vandermeer.

This book is dedicated to Cassandra Clare, which immediately gave me second thoughts about reading it.

The more recent Stephenson books I've read are actually a whole series of parts mashed together that span decades (if not centuries). In some ways it works really well, but sometimes I feel like I'm getting into the groove and then suddenly something completely different is happening?

I almost gave up when this book STARTED with a murdered toddler, but the writing is beautiful and there have been no dead kids for at least 50 pages, so here I am.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one so far. On the one hand, I love Numair/all things Tamora Pierce, and this is a fun visit to a land I loved as a kid. On the other, I feel like this lacks the charm of Pierce's earlier Tortall series, and the characters aren't as fleshed out as I would have expected.
