Good gravy! What an amazing writer! Chris and I are listening to this while we cook and eat dinner— amazed that it took us so long to read a book that we’ve always heard about

Disappointed so far.

Pretty disappointed in this so far— was expecting a solid history of the Roma, but instead it’s a rather random personal memoir with some scattershot history. The author, although a historian, doesn’t seem to be able to look at the topic critically.

This is my spooky season reading

This is the original “Gothic” Novel and so far it is cringingly bad. however, gotta give Walpole, a sitting MP when he wrote this, credit for creating the “spiritual godfather of Frankenstein and Dracula, the creaking floorboards of Edgar Allan Poe and the shifting stairs and walking portraits of Harry Potter's Hogwarts.”

Really enjoyed listening to this— although

This is Chabon’s debut novel, & to be honest, I don’t know if I’ll finish it. I find his other novels — especially the Yiddish Policemen’s Union— to be extraordinary— & I’m glad to see how much he grew as a writer. But this novel is just meh. Would I feel different if I didn’t know how much better Chanon’s writing will get?

We are planning to go to India for the 1st time this spring & this book is really eye-opening

We are listening to this while vacationing in the Laurel Highlands of PA with the 10 year nephew. he’s loving it so far

I’d forgotten how breathtaking Kingsolver’s writing can be

What an extraordinary work

I’m heading to Key West in a few weeks— decades since I lived there. This book was written soon after my family was stationed there

I loathe all these characters. The Guillotine, sadly, has not yet been invented.

I’ll be honest— I’m only about 12% through this book & I’m not sure how much more of these testosterone-poisoned nitwits I can take.

I’m loving this!! Although sometimes the characters are hard to love— and the casual cruelty of white folks in the Delta lingers everywhere. It’s a slow read but worth it.

am listening to this, Keeping in mind that the audio version leaves out several parts about the best known remaining parts of the Empire, including Bermuda and the Falklands

We are headed to Sicily for a short visit, so I'm reading this great Sicilian novel

Enjoyable, but Not sure if I feel it is Pulitzer-worthy

So far I am HATING this book. The tone is so shrill and strident.
