Does this get better, or should I give up? Anyone read it to the end and find the second half to be better than the first? I'm not liking the characters at all, which isn't a deal-breaker, as Wuthering Heights is the same way, and it's a favorite of mine, but the thing I keep thinking is, "I liked this better when it was A Farewell to Arms" and "I hate everyone and don't care what happens to anybody."
