Well it took 200 pages for anything interesting to happen.

I feel like the plot here is being dragged out a bit too much. I like a slow burn but this is potentially going to bore me to death if stuff doesn't start happening. Following Control is interesting but like...... Let's do something with this.

Harry is really trying his best to piss off..... just about everybody lmao

So far this is a lot of character development and interactions across the cast. We're dealing with the falling action since the apocalyptic action movie that was Battle Ground. Harry is really on the struggle bus. I appreciate the time Butcher is taking in this one to really make the reader understand how messed up Harry is from last book.

Feels good to be reading a new Dresden book again, it feels like forever since Battle Ground came out.

That was such an exhausting battle to read 🤣

So I'm about halfway through and I'm certainly enjoying this up to this point. There really isn't a TON of plot happening, seemingly less than the original trilogy, but the writing is of course top notch and the characters are enjoyable to follow. The Burners are......psychos, lol.

I can't say there's a TON going on with the story here, but Abercrombie is simply great at getting you invested in his characters and their conversations with one another. They are all so distinct and unique and I just love the way these interactions go.

Great character work so far, as usual. I'm really enjoying Savine and getting to see some familiar faces is always fun. Leo is a bit of a cunt.

Feels good to be reading Abercrombie again.

The quote I posted is just an example but man, this is the direction all of this ended up going after Disquiet Gods? Smh.... No personal agency. No decision making. It's all just willed by God, mmmmmmk.

Some of the things being written about religion here is reinforcing why I hate the argument of doing things in the name/service of God. Even if it turns out to be "correct" by the end of this book, this shit is annoying.
