Made the beet chocolate cupcakes and used some of the leftover beets to make fruit popsicles. Both kids complained about the beet smell but tasted the batter and begged for more cupcakes. Felt pretty successful.

Working through this slowly with my son. May end up having to buy a copy of our own. We've tried lots of different food strategies and kid cookbooks, but he seems to really like the structure of this one. So far we've done a couple of the "explore" activities but not any of the eating, but today he asked to make beet cupcakes. Hey, if he ends up trying beets that way I'm not going to complain!

Ugh. I was enjoying this until the scene with major incontinence shaming. For shame shaming a woman who can't get to the bathroom on time. Even a fictional woman who said something racist in the prior chapter.

Had this on hold at the library FOREVER! and now I have it but I have a report due tomorrow, so just got to read a tiny taste. so far the main character seems rather a fool but the setting is fascinating.

I am amazed and impressed by this woman... and realizing how often I think of "justice" related missions as a new thing.

when talking about caffeine she states: "The association between nausea and miscarriage means the sicker you feel, the better." Argh... in a book that claims to be unpacking pregnancy myths by looking at the research, a blanket statement like this (with no references at all) is really unacceptable.
