This book is so stressful.

I'm pausing this until the audiobook comes back to me from the library. I tried reading in print but I can't read "thees" and "thous". I can listen to it though, apparently!! It helps that Campbell Scott is a fantastic narrator :D

Switching to print on this so I can try to keep track of all these names/titles/planets 😁

Having to switch to print as this non-Texas narrator (or whatever this guy is) can't pronounce "mesquite" correctly.

Taking a pause as my hold came due. I mean, it's 30plus audio hours long. It's going to be a long ride.

This book just mentioned Arby's in a magical dream space and it has sealed my love as the best Blind Date with a Book ever!!

I know this book is for children but it’s scaring the pants off of us!

Had to return this to the library so it's on hiatus until I can get it back.....

I didn't realize that Tolkien divided up this trilogy into 6 books. When we "abruptly" ended Book 1 last night, I was like "Oh. O.k." I asked the kids if they wanted to continue to Book 2 or take a break and they voted to take a break. So we will pick it up again after their picks.

I've gotta take a break on this. So much death. I'm not handling that so well right now.

I'm about 40 minutes from the end and Abdul-Jabbar just nailed the political climate and racism: when the government allows racism, the racists flount their stuff. When the government oppresses racism, the racists hide. So on point!!! #presidentcallsitchineseflu

WTH???

We'll see how this goes. The intro alone concerns me - another rich guy doing his own thing regardless of how crappy it is just because he can.

Juliette picked this as a car listen but the subject matter is way too adult. Putting a pause on it.

Ahhhhh....just the fluff I need from my intensive "racial injustice" readings.

Just encountered some racist remarks (the president of USA trying to get the Chinese Premier on the phone. He gets other Chinese people and they are saying "tlain" instead of train. Yeah...)
I didn't read it as written and tried to gloss over that part in general.
Not cool.

Listening to this full cast audiobook. The music sounds like I’m in a planetarium. The actor portraying the Chinese doctor reminds me of Michael Scott pretending to be Chinese. :/

Had to interrupt Mists of Avalon so I could read this before next book club. I don’t know if it’s the switch from that book (which I don’t want to interrupt but need to) or it’s my aversion to the 1%/Real Housewives obsessed voyeurism that I could give two F’s about but I’m just not digging this. I’ll take a break and lend it to another Book Clubber - maybe some distance will make my heart grow fonder.

Some of these are gems, some are just plain odd/boring, and some have the most bizarre elements! Observe: Idiot son takes his mother’s direction literally. When she says “cast friendly eyes on (your prospective bride)”, he ties her up in a barn, gouges out the eyes of all the animals, and throws the eyes in her face!!!!!! WTF??? Spoiler alert: she broke up with him.
