Jumping in (late) to my Horror or Heaven group buddy read for Feb 2026… no buddy, but that’s ok - this has been on my list for a long time 📖

[an interaction between Bob Ezrin and Roger Waters when recording The Wall]
So very early on, there was a moment when Roger was pushing me and I turned around and said, “Read my lips, motherfucker, you cannot talk to me like that!” And the rest of the band were instantly on side, going, “Yessss!” And I think that held me in good stead from that point onwards.’

Fans know the story of the pig from the Animals cover, but I hadn’t heard of the pyramid incident- maybe that was a jab by Alan Parsons (via Pyramania) for Gilmour saying DSotM would have been as good with any good engineer

‘One of These Days’, seemed tied to the Floyd of old. With its ominous bass riff, BBC Radiophonic Workshop-style sound effects, and Nick Mason hissing the words, ‘One of these days I’m going to cut you into little pieces’, it sounded like a vamped-up, prog rock version of the Doctor Who theme tune spliced with The Tornados’ ‘Telstar’.

haha - as a fan of Dr Who I’m surprised I never made that connection 🪛

“Warriors of the Storm” is kind of a generic title for this - Cornwell could have just as easily opted for “Kicking Ass and Taking Runes”… so far so good though 🛡️

Syl looked at him as if he were crazy. “Because they can fly.”
“So can you. Actually, so can I.”
“You don’t fly, you fall the wrong way.”…

(kind of like Toy Story… “Falling with style” 😀)

I’ve read enough in this now that what remains is a ‘normal’ sized book

Come on Sanderson - that was basically right out of Mel Brooks’ “History of the World - Part I”. (Still storming funny though 😜)

“They will try,” Jasnah said, “to define you by something you are not. Don’t let them. I can be a scholar, a woman, a historian, a Radiant. People will still try to classify me by the thing that makes me an outsider. They want, ironically, the thing I don’t do or believe to be the prime marker of my identity. I have always rejected that, and will continue to do so.”
