I enjoyed the struggle in this one: I went in an unabashed Caesarian and I still respect my Lord, but Cicero pissed me off enough for me to realize that I can safely be a student of both teachers without having to deify either. Brutus is a chuckle head though; "Mr. Virtue" is an impetuous fool, a murderer, and a terrorist. The Latin lessons were helpful as well, and I wish more Varro had survived.

I didn't like this book as much as I thought I would. I find Campbell is a creature of his time, one of the last true "Moderns," full of wet liberal hypocrisy and far too indoctrinated on heart, compassion, and bliss being the highest spiritual markers of the ideology of transcendental Being of Beings, a great happy stuporous soup of childish irresponsibility. I like him more when he sticks to Myth rather than Theos.
