This book is padded out with beautiful asides in what feels like all the wrong places. This is the kind of book where a character gets a gun pointed in their face and then spends the next 2 or 3 paragraphs reminiscing on childhood or meandering through memories that also come with geographic information and branching side stories about the community. Then, the character reacts to the gun by paragraph #4.
