idk what page i’m on cuz i’m listening to this. i feel like it’s extremely overwritten and will def feel like an 800 page book. i was starting to kind of dread how slow it was going but i’m at the harry dunning stuff, and i like the direction it’s going now!! into it despite the overwriting

Just a few pages in, I strongly appreciate the nod to The Yellow Wallpaper. ^-^ Hoping the wallpaper in the attic becomes a plot point by slowly driving characters insane!

Listening to the audiobook and I was SO UPSET that is isn't read by Eliza Clark!! Her Newcastle accent was a major reason why listening to Boy Parts was so good! However, I'm already over it and I just started but so far I love it.

This is bleak so far, and it's written in this odd way that makes me feel a little insane, like I'm not really taking in what I'm reading somehow, even though I... think I am? I'm finding the imagery confusing and disjointed. I'm not sure I like it, but I like the premise and want more insight on this subject, so I'll keep reading for now.

Kelly Dienes is on page 36 of 240 of This Skin Was Once Mine and Other Disturbances
This book begins with a note from LaRocca saying that the editors beseeched him to put a warning for graphic disturbing content at the front of this book, as a way to implore the readers to check in with themselves to make sure they're mentally stable enough to read it. Quite like Doki Doki Literature Club. Anyway. I'm not the MOST mentally stable, but challenge accepted

OMG this is a fucking SLOG!!!!! I'm curious enough to keep going, and I like the characters, and it's a good premise, but like... can we MOVE ALONG?? So much of it is literally just describing peoples' positions in a room, mind-numbing details of people shifting positions in a room. I've skipped entire paragraphs because of these boring and pointless as fuck spatial descriptions. I will keep reading, but oh my god.

This is obviously a 5-star book but listening to it so far has been like a 2- or 3-star experience. I'm reading the physical copy currently (I got it to see the photos I assumed were included) and already it's SO much better, and I'm way more invested in it. Idk what my issue is with this as an audiobook, the reader is fine... funny how that works.

I realized that listening to this is sort of agonizing, a lot of it is off-putting, and I lost interest. So I'm gonna stop. The Collector is great, that's all I need from John Fowles

Listening to the audiobook--this started out confusing to me cuz I knew this was a YA novel, but the main girls are 13. That strikes me as very odd cuz teens generally don't want to read about middle school characters. But the content of this book is WAY too mature to be a middle grade novel. Makes me wonder why the author didn't write the characters as high schoolers? I bet there's a reason. Color me intrigued

I can already tell this is gonna wreck me. All the stuff going on in Jayne's head--the bitterness, longing, judgement, and self-torture by social media--is familiar to me and it makes me so so so sad. I already deeply appreciate her perspective, because so many young people, especially women, go through this daily mental anguish. It's almost strange to see it described so clearly.
