Who's winning so far? It's a toss up, though I have only completely skipped one story, and it was zombies. But two of the unicorn stories have been boring or predictable (partly the editors' fault for spoiling things in their comments). The balance of forces are evenly matched.

Anyway, I picked it up for the sheer ridiculousness of the concept, so what more could I expect?

Takes a while to warm up, but the story has started to get interesting. Steinbeck places a short story between each chapter of the main narrative, which was at first annoying, but now I see the point is to give perspective beyond the Joad family. The stories between create an intriguing vision of the scope of the dust bowl.
