Taking AGES to finish this book. A lull in the middle had me lose interest but I just picked it up again and it's really starting to get good, no- great. Grant's prose can feel a little clunky but something changes once the pet arrives, his chapters start to bounce of one another in really interesting ways and the suspense is pure cinema.

Loving this book. Starts off as good as it gets in the Hungarian mountains, with a scene that spells out exactly why I love horror- Gothic atmosphere, dread, terror. So good, in fact, that I was worried when the action moved to LA, but McCammon is wringing out every drop of atmosphere from the city of angels. So far this tops Salem's Lot (not that you have to compare, but, you know..)
