Tension builds up nicely toward the end. Interest builds to the point where you want closure.

Seems everyone in this book is either drinking booze or eating all the time. Come to think of it, that's pretty much what people do all day. But still...

Character development is solid. The antagonist, Camden, is a great lightning rod for animosity.

This book is chocked full of strange characters. Sum are likable enough, but I have to admit that many are quite horrific. I mean, throw 'em in a flaming pit and throw away the key horrid. But for some darn reason, I keep reading.

Finishing up the Last Guru. Quite funny and an interesting look at the vile nature of money and mass media.

The pace remains fast. The humor? Okay, but seems a bit forced. An interesting turn as the book satires the John Carter, Warlord of Mars series.

Fast paced action as expected. The humor is not so intense, but in line with my expectations. However, I was impressed with Cy BerPunk's tale. An interesting interlude that satires Gibson's cyberpunk writing style. Fun for fans of that now dead SF sub-genre.

Potassium percolate can be used as an oxidizer for solid rocket fuel. I never knew that before.

Mercury fulminate? I need to use wiki quite a lot while reading this, but that makes it more fun. As this is an epic poem, there isn't any expositional narration. The fewest words with the greatest meaning.

Almost done. I fine second installment to this small series. I'm not sure I love the idea that Neddie is not the first person narrator, but that's no big deal. Seems very much like an Alice in Wonderland tale. Might even make a nice movie one day, with all sorts of weird creatures and giant talking heads.

The following line makes Huxly's scathing POV of society quite clear: you will see that no offense is so heinous as the orthodoxy of behavior. I suppose it's true (more or less) for every society, and the foundation of localized morality.

Progress is lovely.

The book begs mercifully for a return to Romanticism. Or is it a silent scream?

Still turing the world upside down. Whatever is normal for someone living in England circa 1950, the opposite is true in this futurist world. But it raises a good point: by what yardstick do we judge something as 'normal'?

Wow! This book explores a candy coated state controlled future jacked-up on force-fed consumerism. It takes all current mores and flips them upside down in way that almost infuriates. So much so, it's hard to tell if I should hate this imaginary future more than my existing past. Perhaps I will just hate them both.

This is truly speculative fiction at its best. And if you ever considered war as something noble, such thoughts will diminish as you read. Amazing how reversing time's can change one's point of view.

Much of the book is revealed in the last two chapters. To some degree it's quite interesting. But at the same time it's also frustrating. Too much too late, given that the action and narrative exposition is so uneven.

The plot thickens. Too bad it's full of senseless junk. The planet Gammu seems to be some throwback that resembles east Germany during the Cold War. What was Herbert thinking?

The Chicken Man meets the Lizard Men! Wow, things are heating up now.

The wonderful mystery of this book unfolds. Is the Earth being taken over by The Pod People. I'm sure to find out.

The story is unfolding nicely. And everyone just loves the Chicken Man. Many aspects of Pinkwater's youth are hidden in the book's pages. Model airplanes were a critical part of life.

Three quarters into the book, the plot begins to take better shape. I'd have to read this more than once in order to tell if enough clues exist to understand things without explicit exposition. The chatter between characters is interesting, but not always meaningful. Or perhaps I'm just not paying attention.

The story is a bit cryptic from my point of view. While not bad, I'm not sure how HoD adds meaningful context to the Dune universe.

It's hard to describe. Part humor, part mystery, and part apocalyptical fantasy. Hard to classify but fun through and through. Safe for kids and adults will enjoy the story.

Humor mixed with poignant words of wisdom till the last drop. A wonderful book.

Just read Gaudeamus Agita. It's one of the jewels tucked away inside this book. It reminds me of the experience I had in the college. The epiphany of leaning. And further makes me believe that Mr. Pinkwater is a great intellect of our time. Had he not been taught a great many things throughout his education, he would have figured everything out by himself.

Still getting a good laugh from this book. Interesting to see that Pinkwater became an animal trainer. Also, many of the stories are more related to each other. Looking a little like chapters.

As I get deeper, I see that some stories are only mildly humorous. Still enjoying it, though. I believe that my childhood was very similar to the authors. Amongst all the pain and suffering, there is happiness. We are also both preoccupied trying to lose weight. It's our lot in life.

The book is okay, I suppose. Not sure I like it any more than the 2nd or 3rd in the series. The story so far is a bit complex. I'm not even sure I know who the antagonists are.

Hilarious! Laughing my buttocks off while reading every story. Pinkwater is a YA author, but proves quite admirably that he can write entertaining stories for the kid inside all of us.
