Also his nasty attitude as though he was doing China a favor by asking her out. Chona is so much better than him any day.

Doc is such a miserable character. “What about Americans?” Everyone you mentioned , everyone you hate , they are all Americans. They live right next to you, born here, work here, care for this land. What makes you so special?

The man is very romantic about the sea. The part about the male and female fish was sad.

Reading the details of the trial was...taxing to put it one way. What a mess.

I am about halfway through this book. I greatly admire Viola Liuzzo and her legacy, it's nice to read some of the more personal elements in this book. While it's definitely interesting, it's of course a very painful and at times exhausting thing to read. It's hard not to be shaken by many of the evils even when you already know about them.
