Rereading in anticipation of Sky Daddy

It’s been a little over a year. Time for a reread.

I have to say, the one thing I did not expect this book to be was boring. 😑

I feel like when I’m done with this I’m going to flip right back to the beginning and read it again.

A deeply unlikeable narrator but like…not in a fun way.

I have no idea how Marcy Dermansky flew under my radar for so long. Devouring all of her books this month.

If you don’t mind repeatedly reading about a dying father’s soul “ejaculating” into his adult daughter’s body, I guess this is the book for you.

“People once valued the sky, but only because they had nothing better—because they didn't have websites... If she gathered together the amount of time she spent looking at websites, and the amount of time she spent looking at the sky, then her life was clearly answering which was the more valuable, for her.”

Kind of amazing to read a new book set in the 70s that actually feels researched & authentically in the past.

How had I never heard about this book before?? A must read if you’re also obsessed with reading about unhinged women.

I didn’t connect with Little Weirds but LOVED the first essay in this collection, so I’m giving this a go & maybe trying Little Weirds again, which when I first read it struck me as a little MFA-ish. That one was a DNF for me, but really enjoying these essays so far.

Every once in a while I like to read a book I loved 20 years ago to see if it holds up. This reread has me questioning who I actually was 20 years ago 🫥

Ok but really who edited this book.

A fun read if you don’t mind CONSTANT anachronisms.

Rereading a fave because it’s impossible to concentrate on anything new right now 💔
