How could she explain that this city was a graveyard? That they were walking every day through streets where there had been a holocaust, a mass murder of neglect and antipathy, that when they stepped through a pocket of cold air, didn’t they understand it was a ghost, it was a boy the world had spat out?

How the fuck are you going to have your MAMA tell me you gave me HIV?!!

Perhaps I'm being naive, but this book is so informative, exceptional, truthful about our future and yet, hopeful about humanity. Maybe we aren't all terrible? Do the worst circumstances bring out the best in us (Rebecca Solnit!!)? Can we rally together to save ourselves? This future is so real, it's terrifying.

Gone may be my favorite so far, weird beginning but I like the style (two narrative perspectives) and how the story ramped up...why she left, etc. the pandemic is just the backdrop - a means and a reason for her escape (I'm not staying in this house with this mfer in a lockdown! 😂)
