I’m 6% in & I’m HOOKED.

Perfect 59 book. If a book doesn’t hook me by page 59, I scrap it. Right at 55-59, I fell in love. So funny. So real. So relatable as a book worm introvert.

Pg 49 DELIGHTFULLY unreliable narrator. She describes a terrifying experience with such a blasé attitude.

Discovered this by accident at my library

It’s so delightful! 100 pages in & already, the characters jump off the page. The mch is funny, relatable & endearing. Fav though is Austin’s dad with his puns. 2 pages & his character he led out & hit me in the funny bone.

The opening paragraph is the perfect opening paragraph. It sets the science PERFECTLY. Bravo, Emily Henry.

100 page check in. So far not really impressed. Molly is a caricature of a neurodivergent person. It’s nearly offensive. Also the depiction of the “illegal” as a criminal is too much. I’m baffled that this is a NY times bestseller. Not sure I’ll finish this one.

Intriguing so far. I just feel bad for Daisy, she’s a bit pathetic, which, I think, is the point. Predictions for now: Diana is on a the Diana from the prologue. Hal is Poe & he raped her that night. She is setting him up to get revenge. Foreshadowing in the daughters expulsion for exposing a rapist & Hal just brushing it aside.

159 update: I’ll finish because I’m somewhat invested now & have to see where this wraps up. However, all the povs are totally unnecessary. The characters all sound the same & all the couples are the same. 1 person is uptight & 1 is a free spirit. There’s no nuance at all.

Halfway check in: not great. I’m only sticking it out because I love Penny Reid & I want to read the other books in the series. Janie is so unlikable! The constant whining about not being good enough,how huge she is,she can’t even knit, is tiresome. While direct,on the spectrum-like bluntness comes off as endearing on Cletus or Shelly, on Janie it just comes off as being a jerk. Also, Quinn’s a bit of an arse.
