why is everyone who uses the go-between a bad person? realizing their faults and regrets only when it’s too late, when they can never see that person again. the complexities of human nature… misono and arashi’s chapter made me sad. arashi needed to get over herself, stop putting so much weight into what others said and how they perceived her. just love ur best friend without one-sided animosity! :(

yasuhiko is actually the worst type of man, his meeting with his mom was sweet though. he’s still lowkey a bad person though.

not too sure how i feel about it yet. i kind of resonated with the first character, hirase, though. she is an introvert to her core, and is a little helpless and undecided on life. i can sense her undiagnosed anxiety & depression from her lack of community and support. i’m intrigued, but also a little underwhelmed and, a little bored? intros of books are always boring though which is why i will keep reading.

so-nyo…her perspective, as a bird, in between life and death, watching over her youngest daughter, as she watches over her own children, regretfully and sorrowfully. watching over her secret, distant lover from her past, confused and sorrowfully. recalling her life, a life separate from her family, her regrets, and her secrets. such a beautifully tragical point of view. may she find relief & rest in peace ♡

wow…that chapter was a lot to take in. why is everyone lowkey a bad person. i feel bad for the dad, but not that much. i feel sad for the family as a whole, but they took so-nyo for granted and treated her badly for decades before they realized their wrongs. it was too late when they realized. the dad practically abused her with his absence and lack of care. how can i feel bad for him? realization & regret…2 late

so the book isn’t only in the perspective of one of the daughters, it’s in the perspective of all of her children. the perspective of hyong-chol didn’t resonate with me as much as the first chapter in chi-hon’s, but it still saddened me. growing up and growing apart from ur parents, rarely seeing them and having full conversations, it’s so sad. how can people live without their parents so casually?

mommy issues are coming out with this one. i wasn’t expecting this book to be SO FUCKING SAD, i thought it would be towards the end, but i was so wrong. the writing is so detailed and so personal, so regretful and sad. mother was suffering and no one, not one of her kids, knew about her pain and sorrows. i want to move out, but reading this, i don’t want to leave my mom, i don’t want her to become a stranger.

now why was that last chapter about a man…it focused on majio and sumie but still…i didn’t really like that much. it still portrayed some of the same struggles, emotions, and experiences as the other chapters but i wish it was more focused on sumie, and her emotional disability. i liked the complexities of their relationship, and how different they are, but i just didn’t like that the chapter was about a man

i really do see parts of myself in every character and their lives. mito-san is not shit unfortunately, but i really do understand her and her hesitations. not knowing what she truly wants in life, she lives idly with asaoka, as it “makes the most sense” for her to be with him. they’re not really in love, mito-san has just lived her whole life under the control of men so she doesn’t know what SHE truly wants.

ngl, i’m so glad maho-san punched her son in the face-like he really deserved it. living such a physically and emotionally taxing day to day life and being walked on by your own children?? i would’ve put my hands on them sooner! she needed to lash out to bring her family closer together instead of enduring everything quietly. i felt satisfaction when she got angry and actually expressed it bc she deserves to!

Again, the way the author writes & narrates these characters lives is so raw, and natural. narrating as if in the mind of a real person, relaying thoughts of very real and normal emotions. haruka-chan’s chapter shows her slowly spiraling and self sabotaging, turning into someone she hates, and sharing the same qualities she hates in other people. her illness broke her, and she was unable to heal & grow & change.

izumi is so real…i really loved the writing of the first story, it felt so real and personal. i could really understand izumi and the position she’s in, feeling for her; from one artsy & crafty girl to another. i’m excited to read the other stories and see how the writing differs with a different perspective, with a different person living a different life.

i just hope karadj is as peaceful and hopeful as everyone thinks

so sweet and romantic and intimate! a real lover’s thoughts. this age gap shit is beautiful…i genuinely love elio’s character though and the way he thinks and loves so i really enjoyed this cadenza chapter. time works in such mysterious and beautiful ways; life always repeats itself, an endless ever-changing cycle. once again andre aciman’s writing is so thought provoking. i too love november!!

the subtle incest they threw in was…not needed at all and did change my opinion of miranda a little bit. but other than that i think this book is so romantic and beautifully written so far. got a little uncomfortable at the sexual parts because they are a little weird, as most age gaps relationships are in media but it’s okay…the writing is still beautiful and thought provoking 🤷🏽‍♀️

i’m excited to learn about elio’s father and their relationship. also it seems like mr. andre aciman loves age gaps! and that’s all i have to say

part 3 has to be my favorite, it was very very sweet. i did like it in the movie when they went to rome but this is, of course, so much more vivid. it feels like i was there as well! the people they met, stories they heard, laughs they shared, it was all so sweet and heartwarming. the calm before the storm i guess, an escape from reality.

i will be repeating myself, but this is so so so much better than the movie. u get to see so much more of their personalities. not even just oliver and elio, but elio’s family and the people around him. i do like getting to see more and more of oliver’s personality, especially seeing how elio makes him feel. even though elio thought he didn’t feel the same way, it turns out he feels it more.

my first time reading! i’ve watched the movie a couple of times and liked it…other than the age gap. the book is much more romantic and intimate, obviously because i’m actually able to know what elio is thinking. i love the details and when i forget that baby boy is getting groomed, i’m enjoying the read!

the truth is about to be revealed!! cameron kind of relapsed into being a mega asshole…anger can do that to someone but sighh. i was not expecting cameron’s meeting with simon brinks to go as it did, i didn’t really care for the interaction tbh. i’m excited to finish the book but also a little sad because it has been good.

so good 😖 cameron’s growth is so…refreshing. the people around him, and their open hearts (and mouths for gossip), impacted cameron and his way of thinking, leading him to be more open minded, i love. once again, my heart aches for tova, but i’m glad she has cameron because he has also impacted her and changed her, for the better. also..ethan and tova r so cutie. this book is keeping me engaged & on my toes

getting soo good. as i read though, my heart aches more and more for tova. when her and cameron met, there were signs of them being related but i didn’t think the book was going to take that very obvious plot turn. at first i thought he was going to be revealed as her son after all, but now i think he’s her grandson and his deadbeat dad is tova’s son. but there are so many holes in this like i need more infooo

getting so much better now that it’s picking up. it’s a nice feel good story. i love tova and i don’t think that will change, terry is lowkey king too. cameron is still insufferable but i like when he’s with tova, because she keeps him in good shape and he isn’t being ignorant….i’m looking forward to tova’s journey with the nursing home and finding out the truth about her son!

getting better actually! i really like grandma tova’s character but i feel so bad for her, she literally lost everyone she loved. marcellus (the octopus) is lowkey king and cameron is still insufferable and annoying!!

the reviews weren’t kidding when they said there was an insufferable man in it. i like the old lady though!
