Jules S. is starting Murder Off the Books (By the Book Mysteries #3)
POD - WTH!? Not sure how many of you read paperback still, but the first two were easy to read larger print. I was disappointed to open this book to find smaller lighter print. I was not familiar with print on demand until I researched why this book looks so much different than the first two. Shame on you publishers for being cheap.

I do love this quote … “Well, it was an unpleasant time”.

“Now there is a genteel Southern understatement for life being ripped apart by a cataclysmic shit storm.” ⛈️

Slow start, difficult to get into the characters, good book about a difficult family dynamic. Interested to see how this wraps up.

I had to temporarily pause the book because of the creepy doll, putting them to the attic.

Melanie is extra annoying in this book, she’s so unsure of her marriage to Jack. Even being jealous of oxygen and Yvonne at the historical society archives. She’s even more prickly with the nanny Jayne. totally clueless about her daughters ability to see or feel ghostly activity.

Great book, love this so far. Have to pause reading temporarily - as I got to the part about the creepy, antique doll yelling ‘help me!’ And indicating Melanie should go check out the attic. 👻 Need to take a break and read something less scary.

One thing I like about book number four in this Lakeshore Chronicles series, is it the author has incorporated more characters from the first three books. I felt like that’s been missing from some of the prior books. 📚 Once you read about a character, you want to know what happens about to them next.

Enjoying this book so far, just laughed out loud at, “Fairfield House stuck out like a whore in church, sporting a garish paint job. All it’s fine architectural architectural details had been painted and varying shades of pink. There was a sign of the wrought iron fence on the front. Fairfield house, Circa 1886. Rooms to Let.”

This book really has me hooked so far!
A multi generational story about three different time periods, covering family bonds, racial injustice, for bidden love, I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Really enjoying. Love the quote…”When she was very small, her mother used to tell her that books were alive in a special way. Between the covers, characters are living their lives, and acting out dramas, falling in and out of love, finding trouble, working out their problems. Even sitting closed on a shelf, a book had a life of its own. When someone opened the book, that was when the magic happened.”

Drue is still being a selfish brat. She is 36, not 16. 🥵 She’s angry at the world because her parents divorced. Her dad paid to support her, but wasn’t there for a relationship. Also angry b/c due to a knee injury and botched surgery (She did zero research on the surgeon!) she can’t be a professional kiteboarder. Boo hoo! Seeing a few redeeming qualities, hopefully she improves. Blaming it all on her Dad.

Normally I love MKA books, but I’m struggling with this one because I’m hate the main character, Drue. She’s an angry, 36 yr. old slacker/whiner w/no sense of motivation. A family member gives her a job, to help her out, and she can’t even manage to make it to work on time, because she manages her time so poorly. It’s called adulting, suck it up buttercup!

Normally, I dive into every Mary Kay Andrews book with total enthusiasm. I’m struggling with this one because I’m disgusted with the main character, Drue. I really don’t like her! 🥵 She’s a 36-year-old slacker who complains and whines about everything and can’t even make it to work on time because she doesn’t manage her time well. It’s called being an adult. Suck it up, Buttercup!
