Girl we are too far into this series for Bree to be this short sighted. Oh yeah let’s just go get the demon king his magic crown that gives him power, surely then he’ll stop causing problems for humans. ???

Oh how dearly I wish the 5 narrators in this book had tried even a little bit to make their voices for characters consistent. Like why does Valec have a southern accent now when he didn’t earlier.

And also I truly wish, from the bottom of my heart, that Tracy had not written a Scottish character. We have enough representation. None of these 5 narrators can do a Scottish accent even remotely passably. And they try.

Why are we introducing a new Big Bad Guy at this point in the book

Why are we keeping Sel around?? He’s clearly a problem.

Just Bri making mistake after mistake after bad decision with no discernible plan or realistic acknowledgment of the circumstances she is in yet.

I sense some ✨growth✨ is about to take place.

I’m a little confused about the technological capabilities of this civilization. You have MAGIC and electricity but not much in the way of heavy artillery and we’re still primarily using trench warfare??

Also absolutely bonkers that these two are literally in the trenches and all they can think about is flirting with each other.

I’m very curious about the next 50%. I have a lot of questions about the world. The main characters also have a very simple understanding of more complex topics. Ex: their close family/friends are fighting in a war and it seems like they were convinced to join by some almost hypnotic experience with a god(ess). These friends are called heroic/selfless without any skepticism about the process. Hope that is explored.

I’m starting wayyy too many audiobooks with limited plane rides to finish them all. But I just love this book and have a hankering for it again.

Reading this book on the recommendation of one of the YouTubers I watch who liked it. Do I think it will be a good book? Frankly, no lol. But I will keep an open mind through the silliness and I will probably still have a good time.

I love my gal Agatha but she says some out of pocket things about Persian people in this book.

I fear this book may have nothing to do with Ophelia from Hamlet and it’s just the main character’s name

I’m not totally sure what I think of the writing style so far. I think I like it. It reads a lot more like a myth than it reads like Shakespeare. And definitely more than it reads like fanfiction, which is really what this book is, let’s be honest.

Really not sure what to think of this book. The author primarily follows the narratives surrounding gender/masculinity during American history which I think can be helpful to narrow your focus a little bit. But also if you’re trying to define ‘healthy/good masculinity’ in a way that transcends culture, it feels odd and maybe too limiting to use so narrow an anthropological lens.

This book is too long. We are on the third iteration of ‘get some information, have a fight, do some travel,’ and I’m pretty sure there’s a fourth coming and tbh I am over it. I still have 6.5 hours left of this audiobook.

Subtlety? Who is she? Cause she’s nowhere in this book.

Really engaging so far! I’m very interested in seeing where the rest of this book goes. The main issue I had with Eragon, the author’s previous series, is that while the premise was super fun, the story was not much more than a simple Hero’s Journey, with accompanying tropes and conventions and not a lot of heart. I wonder how much the author has grown since that book - there are hints of the same style.
