Norman Mailer claimed if he hadn't stabbed his wife the pent up anger would have given him cancer and he would have died. It is very interesting to be reading Sontag's pre-AIDS era study on the mythos of Turburclosis and Cancer. Especially on the eve of World Aids Day. I grew up in a world shaped by HIV. Interesting to see the power of stigma and disease metaphor befor AIDS took center stage.
