This sentence is so bad: “the sha’teth gave a rasping laugh. “I will tell you-but it will be so all your friends can hear.” It raised its voice calling out the words “Can you all hear me?” Has to be the worst sentence I’ve ever read in a book, nothing has pulled me out of the story so quickly and efficiently. Just state that he spoke loud enough for the others to hear damn

I fucking hate wirr

If I have to read “companionable silence” in a sentence one more time I might just DNF this book

“The conversation moved to lighter topics” DAVIAN IS LITERALLY DEAD TO THEM this is so ridiculous.
The ONLY mourning wirr felt for Davian was literally “he turned forward again and swallowed a lump in his throat, forcing himself to finally admit the hard truth.” THATS ALL. Has the author never lost a loved one?? Ever???

So wirr learns Davian is dead and is happy to casually converse with aelric about aelric’s childhood, somebody he previously felt zero affection for. There’s literally 0 mourning over Davian. Oh well, right?
Also we saw exactly 1 interaction with wirr and the girl and suddenly they’re “close” and “anyone with eyes can see it” see what exactly? Because I, as the reader, didn’t fucking see it.

“Wirr felt a pang of sorrow as he did every time he thought of the school”
“Something felt…off”
“They fell into companionable silence”
“Davian nodded slowly”
“Wirr thought about how he’s a prince and life is hard”
“Everything in the scene points to something wicked being nearby, but it all felt…unsettling”

The excessive dialogue and cookie cutter characters make this a hard read. Too much infodumping, too much “I trust you just because” and too much “he’s keeping secrets from us”. yawn.

There’s like, way too much going on and at the same time nothing is going on, and I’m bored. Asha is boring, wirr being a prince is boring, Davian’s powers being solely the ability to tell if someone is lying - and only if they aren’t shielding, which is most of the time - is boring. All of these important middle aged characters are blurring together and the names are hard to follow.

There’s a lot of death in this book…

Still a good book, but it really needs to pick up the pace. I’m enjoying figuring things out about Kelsier and Zane and ruin. I’m relating to the characters frustrations because this siege at fadrex is starting to frustrate me too.

Genuinely rolled my eyes when vin saw reen in her dungeon cell. It should’ve been Zane. I’ve been thinking about Zane this whole time and about how he had a spike embedded in his chest, and now we’re learning about these spikes and I’m not confident he’s actually dead. I’m fine with being proven wrong but reen is not a character that will add anything to the story imo.

I’m almost halfway through the book and we aren’t making any progress towards finding out how to stop ruin

I literally can not believe how boring this book is. I’m still enjoying it but I cannot read it if I’m already bored or sleepy because it only exasperates those feelings. I’m simultaneously hopeful for and dreading the third book in the trilogy.

Also I have no idea what page I’m on because I just realized it continued from the last book…

Idk why I ever thought the fellowship of the ring was boring, I had not known true boredom until this book. For some reason I do not care about what happens at helms deep or with theoden. Maybe because I know how it ends? I began to completely enjoy TFOTR but this book is dragging. Almost halfway thru and no mention of Sam or Frodo yet.

The story is cozy and cute and yeah the dialogue is extensive, but I’m a lot more patient than I used to be, with a fondness for cozy things. I did skip the entire chapter with tom bombadil. Sorry Tolkien.

As much as I love absolutely everything about this story, this book is a very hard read for me. I’m bored and exhausted and going at a very slow pace. I did not finish this series when I first started it a few years ago as I figured I’d try again, but I may not finish it again.

I swear this woman was trying to meet an insane word count for this book. GET ON WITH IT ALREADY! So much repetition and describing things that don’t need to be described. I’m ready for this book to be over. I’m ready for this series to be over. I miss what it was like in the first 3 books.

I’m literally skimming over this I’ve read enough of this battle I’m ready for it to be over.

I have been reading about this god forsaken battle for three stinking days. How long can she drag this on???

I’m still trying to process the fact that Aelin successfully forged the lock- but did not fulfill her destiny. Also Wtaf was she thinking trading erawan for elena??? Also Dorian’s dad being a stand-in for him was weird. Talk about unsatisfying on all fronts. At least there was a downside, but I seriously doubt Aelin is going to be handicapped for long :/

Finally someone DIED! Taking out the witch tower was a noble sacrifice, one that was given weight by the characters dying. What a great scene. I still think Fenrys should’ve died. Maybe Lorcan too.

The thirteen helping abraxos is so fucking good.

Aedion and his army slowly becoming more and more desperate and depressed is *chefs kiss* because it makes their rescue all the more satisfying. Loved the arrival of the Crochan witches. Can’t wait for the rest of it. Also I’m so happy that he admitted his feelings to Lysandra. Their arguments were particularly upsetting.

I loved seeing Dorian have a trick up his sleeve this time!! Crumbling Morath and tricking Maeve was awesome, although I kinda wish SJM had written it to be a little more unexpected. We knew from the beginning that he was tricking Maeve, should we have unraveled it with her? Maybe not. Dorian’s power is really cool.

“I’ve barely made up with my immortal boyfriend who’s on his death bed which means the next thing for us is SEX! Can’t wait to have SEX with my immortal boyfriend who admitted his feelings for me 5 minutes ago! SEX SEX SEX! I’m a character in a SJM book and all I can think about is SSSSEEEXXXXX!!!

Once again it is a problem that nobody dies. Should’ve been lorcan this time. I literally think the last non-enemy to die was Kaltain.

Darrow is such a cheap cop-out I hated his character when we first met him and I still hate him now. Not because he’s a good villain, but because he literally just exists to say “um achshually you guys can’t do that” and it’s lazy writing.
