How cool… and weird would it be to be able to talk to yourself about your shared experiences. The ones both of you had at the same time. From the same body. Even the most private, intimate memories, and thoughts and feelings behind those memories.

No. It wasn’t. 🥺

I like how this character brings herself back to stasis with grounding techniques. Closing her eyes, taking a moment, breathing deeply, changing her perspective to how someone else might see things. It’s nice to see these practices used in a book like this

What would i say to my previous, more ignorant self? I already speak to her in my mind sometimes.. “Why couldn’t you see this? Don’t you care about our future? How could you not think of this, or prepare for that when you had the chance?” What would say to her? How much compassion would i have for her really? Knowing what i know about her, which is everything…

It’s amazing what just a few days of experiences can do to completely change a person’s perspective… How drastically the trajectory of a person’s life can change in such a small amount of time. How differently that person can see the world as a whole with new information, thoughts, or experiences.

“You don’t have to Leap in and try to do something whenever you are uncomfortable. When you’re in a difficult situation, you don’t have to try to make everything perfect. You can just relax with your discomfort. That ability to be with emotional issues is being passionless.”

What does this look like when you’re angry?

Being patient with it. Being still in it. Breathing through it.

I’ve been observing this in myself lately as i meditate.
Simply sitting in the awkwardness has become a type of fun game.
Allowing myself to breathe in and take a pause instead of interjecting unnecessary words.

“The basic discipline that arises out of our meditation practice is to catch ourselves when we get stuck… that discipline, Will, overtime, manifest off the cushion when you notice you are hooked by emotions in the rest of your life.”

This afternoon I was emotionally disregulated. I recognized this feeling, and after 20 min trying to get out, I decided to try to come out of it w/ meditation. It’s working!

Just because i think a certain way about something doesn’t mean everyone else experiences it the same way. My perspective is my perspective for a reason. And it’s subjective to my own personal experience formed from looking through my own personal lens. I have the capacity to change the lens😎

To be able to create, we must be willing to learn how to quiet our minds, feel our emotions, and stay in the vacuum so the ideas can well up from our deepest place of knowing..

When people change their attitudes, they change their perceptions, and as their perceptions change, they continue to change their attitudes

It’s been a year since I’ve picked this book up, and since then my worldview has changed so that i no longer find the constant misunderstanding & lack of communication entertaining or endearing. It’s annoying, petulant & pointless.
The cognitive distortions these characters possess are so blatantly obvious & purposefully skewed, it is maddening.
I couldn’t be friends with any of these people 😵‍💫

I always thought that being “negative” or pessimistic was bad, & to acknowledge that side of yourself is not good. I was taught to hide that side of myself away, and to not acknowledge it at all, let alone engage with it and hear it out. All sides of ourselves have a need to be heard 🤍

Sometimes I forget to just enjoy life, and relax in the mystery without trying to continually unravel it for some ultimate mastery. If I am going to explore, I want to do it from a sense of awe & wonder 🤍
