Really enjoying that this doesn’t feel like an overly scholarly approach to writing about a subculture. Tolhurst was there and highly observant - the stylistic mystique inks onto the page.
It’s part memoir, academic citation, tour diary, and storytelling - an exploration of the influences and conditions that led to the development of Goth.
It lends it an intimacy that I’m very appreciative of!
