Thoroughly enjoying this so far. It is full of such fucking humanity.

An unsettling, dark, deeply atmospheric book I highly recommend. Nearly fully realized and those parts I wasn't one hundred percent on (the introduction of characters, for example) I decided were all very much on purpose.

Oh, man, it takes forever for them to get to school in this book. Yeesh, almost 200 pages.

So far, the negative reviews seem to be bearing fruit with this: I am having a real hard time getting on board with the author's intentions, motivations, decisions, everything! Why in hell didn't she just say, "Sorry, Bob, I can't publish your story" and mail him back his fucking manuscript. She's not the only writer in the world who's received a ms from a family member. And her writing... pretty bland so far.

Looking forward to China.

Why am I reading cappy books when I could be reading this?

Hooked!

A good example of writing in different perspectives, on the importance of voice and language for creating character. I cried a couple of times. There were some sublime sentences. A very good book. The movie's great, too!
