4 chapters in and this is feeling like a very young Harry Potter meets School for Good and Evil, and is giving similar vibes to the Willow Moss series. It's set in an Oz where witches are common, but so far there's no mention of any familiar characters - not sure if it's meant to be ages before or ages after the stores we know.

Why does this have me sobbing? It was supposed to be a silly YA romantasy 😭

So far this is giving Princess & The Pauper set in a fantasy world, if the pauper was a witch and wanted to steal the crown.

Note to self: trigger warnings for self harm (a group of side characters call themselves 'cutters' and appear ecstatic after self harming)

While still reading younger, content has made book 2 a 13+ rating for me.

10% in and the r-slur count is at 2. Disappointing.

The pretties' colloquialisms are also driving me nuts, and I can understand it from a storytelling perspective but it's definitely overdone.

While I was so lucky to receive a digital ARC of this book, I was a tad concerned that not being in audio (how I read Lights Out) would make it slightly less magical - so far, I'm very happy to say this isn't the case!
