I don't know who let Culler write this book, but they should be fired. His gaps in logic, pre-postmodern assumptions, and condescending tone are unbearable.

So far, author is overly heavy-handed in his unremarkable detailing of thoughts that every writer has ever had, and, while the plot itself is interesting enough, in his attempt to reveal the person behind the All-American and the inability to really capture that personhood, he idealizes a character who is rather Everyman in an incredibly bland way given the events that are happening to him.
