I may not be able to read this book. Penny wrote it in 2024 when the plot seemed impossible. Now, it no longer feels that way. I read books for escape and this is feeling too close to home. I'll try a bit more before I give it up.

I can already tell that this is going to be a great book.

Trying *so* hard to stick with this. Reviewers say it's worth it, but it feels like a slog. I loved Rwizi's House of Gold, so I'll hang on there a little longer.

I love this book! It's such a crazy mash-up of dragons, science, steampunk, indigenous culture, and imperialism. It shouldn't work, but it does. I'm obsessed. My only quibble so far: Anequs is inhumanly perfect. I'm waiting for her to have a flaw. In the meantime, I'm completely enjoying this.

I really shouldn't read any books after finishing one by NK Jemisin. It's unfair; no one can compete.

It's confirmed: I am already in love with this book. The opening line of Chapter 3 did it. Amazing.

These characters talk a *lot.* I'm tired.

This is what I need right now. No stories about the world ending, people dying, or civilizations collapsing. Instead, this is a totally unrealistic romp featuring "lesbian necromancers exploring a haunted footie palace in space." At least I think it's unrealistic. 🤔 In any case, it's perfect!

I am so trying to hang in there with this book! Lots of reviewers say that the first 25% is slow and then it picks up. But 25% of the book is 125+ pages. I might not be able to make it!

I don't know if I can read this. It's hitting too close to home.

Struggling. I'm not enjoying the book so far, but other reviewers say that it picks up steam. I'll give it another 30 pages.

It's a page turner. I stayed up way too late last night reading. That kind of compulsive page turning hasn't happened for me in a while. It was completely enjoyable.

I just can't read this right now. It's too brutal. Yes, it's telling the story of war, so violence is part of the experience, but I'm just not up for it right now. Will try again after the pandemic.

Already in love with this book. I hope it stays this good.
