I really am loving how messy this YA queer book is allowing every single person existing in it to be messy as fuck, even the parents, especially the parents. It doesn’t read as a manual but actually kind of in a weird way a more nuanced and human reflection of just…queer ppl in the art scene? I don’t know why but I am enjoying this a whole lot!

Man this book is uncanny in its depiction of a US breaking down into Civil War that feels uncanny to read atm

I’m really enjoying a traditional feel good fantasy and the sapphic gentleness of this is just what I need

I just finished “Misery in Company” that’s a Faust and Mephistopheles gay love retelling short story and it’s from the demon’s perspective and it freaking BROKE ME I haven’t felt like this reading a story in a while wow that was powerful and I’m going to be thinking about it for a while

Despite this being boring for now probably still will keep reading it just for the fact that Wu Zetian is immortal in this and been ruling China for a century. Not having a good feeling though because the misogyny and class divide is kind of a core theme of the book but in history Wu is ruthless to her kin but as the only female Emporer in 5 millennia, she was famous for social reforms that pissed off the aristocracy

Grace Blackthorn is such a complex character somehow I sympathize with her and feel sorry for her but at the same time I also want to push her into a ditch. You know CC's character craftsmanship is no joke but the complexity of this character is just absolute prove.

This is not really a spoiler but more a theory. I think the dark king is Will, or at least Will is the dark king reborn. Don't tell me if I'm wrong or not but from the reviews all saying there's like twist after twist in the last 100 pages and i think this is probably one of them.

WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING

The characters are in Beijing and the description of my home city just brings back all my homesickness because the words they say are like my own and I haven't been home in so long. I don't know if home would love me anymore.

Love how for different heist novels the leader usually have very different motives. In Six of Crows Kaz is like "WE DO IT FOR THE MONEY" and in this book the protagonist/leader of the heist is just like "SCREW YOUR MONEY, ART IS WORTH THE RISK OF COMMITTING A FELONY CRIME IN ITSELF".
