I know this is a classic and the american foundation of a non-conformist/anti-materialism philosophy, but... what a pompous, condescending ass! The large scope ideas that have been attributed to him are much more interesting then his discription of these ideals. To look down not only on your contemporaries with distain and superiority, but all of history seems more like narcissism then the insight of genius.
