This is proving quite a punishing read, given Kerry's many digressions (which are fascinating tidbits of history, but still ... get to the point!)

I'm engaged enough, maybe because I am myself very interested in art history and want to see the seedier side to the industry. And I understand a lot of Judith's self-loathing and class obsession and snobbery.

Don't mess with a crazy, determined mother... In a perverse way I kind of wish my mother was as devoted to me as Chua is.

Already halfway through within an hour—this doesn't happen often with me. My initial perception of Chua is beginning to change. That or her prose (which is occasionally provocative, rather than frequently) has successfully brainwashed me.

Over 100 pages in and I'm still not quite invested in this character. Maybe this is the turnaround moment.

I'm reading this again, seeing as my exegesis expects several reviews of cultural theoretical texts. And hey, I love the poetic language and the detail of kitsch's Victorian origins.

This book is amazing. So helpful for my kitsch project. There needs to be more academic and casual enquiry into this often overlooked subject.

Don't think I'll be able to finish this, as I'll only read what's relevant to my field of study, but Baudrillard is always a good read!

Nearly finished; it's been a fascinating journey into gender politics in design thus far though

It's depressing to read about how modernists so harshly condemned ornament and decoration (still do, arguably!)

Finally, a compelling academic text that is READABLE and RELATABLE!

There are some great bits thus far (the crackdown on innuendo in classics, for one!) but it is dragging a little bit.

Finally relented and bought the crappy edition in a bargain sale. As usual, fantastic, ridonkulous bibliononsense :D
