Fran is reading A Calamity of Souls
The author does a great job of explaining the history of racial prejudice in the US, esp around 1968. I was appalled with how the people of the story were treated, even by police and court officials. This is the story of Jerome & Pearl Washington who are wrongfully accused of killing Jerome's employers. Jack Lee, a white local lawyer, & Desiree Dubois, an expert in defending black rights, team up to defend the coup

Fran is reading The Rested Soul: 30 Meditations to Quiet Your Heart
Each of these devos encourages one in the walk of a Christ follower. She uses metaphor in some to teach : like God being a strong tower. Her husband's photos make this a beautiful book. I just finished it, and am going right back to read again. It would make a great gift for anyone needing encouragement.

A good study. I would like to have seen more depth to the questions though.

Fran is reading He Should Have Told the Bees: A Novel
Just as bees rally together to support a queen in a hive, 2 women with painful upbringings, learn to accept the love of others. The story took time for me to grasp onto, but it was good. The character of young Fern, was a great addition to the book.

Fran is reading The Joy of My Heart: Meditating Daily on God's Word (A 365-Day Devotional)
At times the readings were too short and light, but on the whole it was a nice standby devotional for busy mornings.

Fran is starting The Great Alone
This was a good read! The main character moves to Alaska with her mentally unstable father and mother. It's amazing to think about what's involved in living off the land, on a daily basis. And then the boredom of the long dark winters. Author also writes well about what it's like to live life with unstable parenting.

Another fantastic story. I enjoyed the music theme a lot. We are never far gone from our Heavenly Father nor from those who love us.
