Just read the chapter on Get Out and was surprised to find an interesting comparison between the film and this author’s experience being one of the only queer black journalists in Utah. Very interesting points on black body snatching in both literal horror stories and a more metaphorical experience of blackness in white, Mormon Utah.

a bit unconvinced there was any annie x melanie love in the birds but i resonated deeply with the description of anxiety in these ambiguous relationships. “I just could convince myself to stop” is such a mundane line in the movie that Laura Maw turned into a punch to the gut
