Engrossed - third Kate Quinn book read and enjoying.

Began with this version, but then finished Pat 1 in an excellent version read & produced by Steven Garnett. However, I was interested to hear more of this dramatisation with various narrators in Part 2.

Reading on hold as health causing problems. Might finish on audio eventually. Gutted as enjoying this brilliant book.

Odysseus her latest encounter but not Homer.

Circe discovers herself despite others - understandable given the attitudes of others.

From Jarre's memories of the chaotic battle, mirroring Ciri's time and space travel, destiny brings characters to Stygga Castle. Sadness but also deserved deaths. But there's more.

Another story within a story style - dreams. And characters I've met but elsewhere -- like the Duchess and Fringilla.

Where has Ciri gone? I need to read the final book in the series.

So enthralled by all the machinations, I haven't commented on all the intrigues, violence, weirdness, characters, and POVs. Will there be a cliffhanger?

Weaving threads bring in new characters - ones I know from Witcher 3 game and cards. Lots to get me wondering - and wishing I'd bought the next two books.

The story from Blood of Elves develops with increasing complexity as more players get involved. I'm glad I know the Witcher world - and I'm putting events to names and cards.

Highly recommended

Five wonderful stories read so far - and what variety of styles and takes on the anthology theme.

Although this isn't my normal reading fare, I'm relating to the characters - well, the protagonists. Antagonists are well-drawn, and the setting of 1920s US reads well.

More descriptive battles, plus, plot weaves stealthily.

Wonderful descriptions, especially of the combat training plus fights.

Different approach to an awesome mystery. Clever POV

A horrendous build-up with rats, shells and gas.

Evocative descriptions as the young men and war collide.

Finding the style is slowing the suspense down. Too many POVs but some eliminate suspects. Or do they? Can we rely on them?

Just reached the antagonist POV and like the contrast.

Swept along by the vivid settings - and the historical nuggets. Concerned for Gwen now. Where next? What next?

Now to get the dictation more accurate. And I'm getting there.

The letter style works for me and engrosses me. This was an enjoyable read that deserves a full review in the future. The characters emerge lifelike from the letters as does the island of Guernsey.

The motivation now feels misplaced. Why risk everything?
