This kinda gives off the same vibes as the 1963 sword in the stone movie, which makes sense bc it's an older fantasy. Very different from anything I've read, though ig technically this would be the blueprint for the ones I'm used to reading.

In a good way, rlly, bc I feel like most fantasies from these days are too watered down and tropey, so it's nice to go back to the genre's roots :)

this was such a highly anticipated read for me I was so excited when it became available in the library but it's SO ass y'all like it had POTENTIAL and the execution did not give at all 😭

In a way, my experience reading this book has been like Alexis and Daniel’s relationship.
I went in thinking I’d just take a peek and see what the fuss is about, then all of a sudden I find myself near the end of the book 🧍🏻‍♀️

This is not an overstatement: Poppy Wyatt is the most insufferable, presumptuous, audacious, hypocritical, dense as fuck protagonist I've ever read. It's not even for the sake of character development. All this fuckery she's been doing is being framed as good ???
Like she invades someone's privacy and forces him into things he DOESN'T want, but All hail Poppy Wyatt for improving that man's life 😩

The main character went from a tiny bit ditzy (in like a quirky way ig?) to a ridiculously dense, meddlesome, presumptuous idiot. This is becoming more and more of a hate-read as we go on 🧍‍♀️

I have so many thoughts:
- idk why, but in the back of my mind, I always assumed Sophie Kinsella books were like, fluffy yt suburban american teen girl romances à la Kasie West and I was SO wrong?? I was actually looking for THIS EXACT vibe these days and I'm so glad I gave her a chance
- this is rlly fun so far
- Magnus and his family can go fuck themselves
- Annelise can also go fuck herself

the "oh wow we're actually seniors just a few months away from leaving this place" vibes are so strong it's making me get all nostalgic and gloomy lmao

I've been feeling nostalgic for my early teens these days so I'm doing a re-re-read of one of my early teen self's favorite series :)

We're getting lots of plot twists & there were a few I hadn't predicted but there are other ones I feel like are coming up that I have predicted

Also, I'm enjoying this 2nd half a bit more than the first half :)
