I'm obsessed.

This author knows how to thoroughly upset you by accurately depicting the actions of desperate angry people 💅🙏

Shocking, fascinating, illuminating. This book has so much information, so many shocking revelations, discussing so many things we love from Hollywood; the rampant racism, sexism, classicism; the disregard for safety, equity, and wellbeing. The ringing silence. Only a third through but I reccomend this to anyone remotely interested in the topic.

A quarter through and the plot has kind of JUST started.

I'm acknowledging right now this might be a little bit of a hate read for me at this point, because when June said she and Athena bonded over their love of Baulfmans banal book The Idiot (an obvious and awkward detail that's clearly more about Kuang than June or Athena) I just laughed. Of course they do.

Men obsessed with their mommy issues, ex wives, and dead children wrapped in a desperately slow cosmic horror. I understand why Stephen King fans enjoy this author. I do not.

Personally, I think I'm going to be insufferable about this one.

Does anyone notice the opening to this is incredibly similiar to The Poppy Wars? A dramatically ostracized orphan dedicates their life going to the school for only The Smartest Kids and then just gets in after brief ecposition? Worse bc the setting is flat; Kuangs been to Oxford, so why bother fleshing it out for those who haven't? Hope it improves, as Kuang possesses a unique ability of perspective in many things.

The immediate realization that this book is not, in fact, a well researched and thoughtful look at the impacts and the realities of momfluencers by an accredited author (my bad for not looking into her sooner), but rather a staunch defense of momfluencers from the perspective of a white momfluencer who, it's begining to seem, didn't even think to talk to a child psychologist.

This book is NUTS!

Honestly, I've had a hard time enjoying anything lately, but man Jane Austen thank God you're the exception. 😭

I'm sorry I don't know whether to be offended or to laugh at the fact that the characters in this book get SO weird about finding out the first mermaid they kill is male that they insist on calling the entire species sirens henceforth bc it's a more accurate description. Does the author know sirens were bird women????

From headfirst in love to calling the hospital, between the midway and ending point this book is falling apart.

Oh my god...after falling head first in love I'm experiencing the double take 😭

Absolutely riveting text and information, though the paternalism of the authors shows. A lot.

All this author has achieved so far is how to make a hostage situation boring
