Reading Murakami and de Bernieres back to back? How greedyyyyyyyy

No better time to read Arabian Nights (even though I’ve been coveting it in my possession for a long time before now!) than after seeing it referenced multiple times in ‘If On a Winter’s Night a Traveller’ and finding out Italo Calvino was inspired by the story telling of/in Arabian Nights… exciting!

This is one of my favourite book covers, if not my fave. I can’t explain it, but I can just feel it and it makes me v happy. Hopefully I enjoy the book just as much

Have been so excited to read this book, I froze myself from reading it out of anticipation for nearly a year

Only on page 12 and it is everything I had hoped it to be. Gabor Maté might well be a prince amongst men

A reviewer from The Guardian said it best:

Arguably the best first chapter I have ever read. The way the beauty of Syria, the growing tension and the complete devastation of loss captured so well in less than 25 pages is incredible, I was moved to tears. I am gripped.
